By The Rivers home-coming show

It’s all about the rhythm. From the very first song right through to the last, By The Rivers kept it going, pouring infectious beats into the hall, keeping the crowd moving.
The six musicians on the stage – a talented bunch – played a variety of instruments during their set. With Nile Barrow doing the lead vocals and Jordan Birtles harmonising with him, (from the drum kit), By The Rivers produced that unique vocal sound for which they have become famous.

The 500+ capacity O2 main room was full, just as it was when we were there for Kasabian or Bastille, including a large contingent of the local rockerati. Tonight had attracted an all-ages crowd, young and old alike wanting to be there to celebrate one of Leicester’s most successful home-grown bands and hear the kind of music that appeals to everyone.

This was the homecoming show for By the Rivers, following their tour of the UK and Netherlands and a summer that saw them play in excess of thirty festivals across Europe including an appearance at Glastonbury – on the Pryamid Stage no less – alongside Foals, Jessie Ware, The Strypes and Bastille.
This year By the Rivers also played at Bestival, Green Man, Larmer Tree, Les Nuites Secretes and Boomtown Fair. The band released its debut album on 6th May, heralded by a packed out gig at the O2 a couple of days before. BTR supported Jamie Cullum at the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on 29th October 2013.
Supporting tonight’s headliners were The Mysterians and Will and the People.
Will and the People delivered a set of skanky songs that powered-up the audience. Armed with three vocalists and a strong lead singer, Will and the People were a hit with the crowd, their multi-speed songs setting the scene for what was to follow. With their madcap energy and vibrant music they moved people and kept them on their toes.
