Midcity at the Cookie

They say lightning never strikes twice. I say ‘don’t believe everything you hear.’ Because Midcity pulled off a second headline gig at the Cookie and it was as boisterous, as hot, as sweaty and as magnificent as their first back in January [Music in Leicester January 2015]
This night marked the release of their single ‘Honed‘. Recorded at RML Studios by Ryan Pinson, it marks the next step in the ascent of this band. The single is one of three tracks recorded that will make up an EP due to be released very soon. The other tracks being Slugger and Needles.
The night itself started a little late, due to Birmingham band Frank being unable to play. Bloodsugar were there though with their great collection of songs, played to an almost full house. They got the crowd going enough for a few crowd surfers to test the waves. Here is a band who could quite easily headline themselves, they have such a calm professional air about them.
A sign of the confidence Midcity are now showing was displayed from the very start. Opening with a new intro track, the drum beat picked up the pace before the band launched into Grody, a song they previously saved for the big finish. And that was all it took for the now full house crowd to go crazy.
And so it continued, the band played brilliantly, the bodies surfed around the room and the temperature in the Cookie basement shot up to inferno. Sadly, as was the case last time, there was a casualty. Despite surviving longer than it did back in January, the Grody head met it’s demise by the end. It was great stuff again from a local band that surely must break into the national scene soon. Catch them soon if you can.
Meanwhile outside, the airwaves were carrying the single to the nation (well to the East Midlands) as Dean Jackson played it on his BBC Introducing show. Roll on Midcity.
