Once Vagrant Souls
at The Soundhouse
I can’t tell you how good this band is. Well, actually I can! Musically, Once Vagrant Souls is a band with a tantilisingly good offering.
Launching their new single tonight – Big Clean Mansion – the band attracted a sizeable crowd to The Soundhouse.
Lead singer David Lewis providing uncompromisingly clear and sharp vocals backed up by his band who provided the instrumental melodies with precision.
David Lewis is an artist I remember well. He once was the lead singer in a Leicester band called For The Record before moving on to a new group called Drive By Disco. Both bands were favourites of mine and they were featured as Band of the Month in Arts in Leicester magazine in February 2010. Drive By Disco also included Ben Langrick (bass), Michael Pozerskis (drums) and Rob Willars (guitar.) They began playing with For The Record in 2007 and was one of a select group of popular local bands to play at the Secret Skins party. That snippet of historical information will give you some idea of David Lewis’s provenance as a musician.
On stage tonight with Lewis were Jonathan Stanbrook, Peter Makosh, Richard Ward and Dan McSharry.
Ear-lickingly good songs, infectious rhythms and impressive vocals, combined with a vivacious stage presence, delivered a set that was thoroughly enjoyable and music that was laden with colour and mood.
This is a band whose music sumptuous and vibrant and completely satisfying. My guess is that they will grow to become as equally as popular as their previous incarnations.
