Leicester Oxjam Takeover

This one day festival of music saw 128 acts, performing across 11 stages and performance areas, in venues in the Cultural Quarter of Leicester. Bands, singers, acoustic artists, poets and rappers gave festival-goers a wide range of genres to choose from.
Blessed with good weather, the day drew people into the event where one wrist-band gave them access to all the venues throughout the day, from midday to midnight. The line-up was drawn largely, though not exclusively, from the huge pool of music talent in Leicester and Leicestershire.
The rationale for the event was to raise funds for Oxford Famine Relief (Oxfam.) Oxjam Music Festival is the name given to a national series of events taking place throughout England Wales and Scotland during the months of October and November with some events also taking place in the summer. The first Oxjam was held in 2004 and since then has taken place each year in the UK.
The first Oxjam Leicester Takeover festival took place in Braunstone Gate on Saturday 23rd October 2010. It was an astonishing success, both musically and in raising nearly £16,000 for the Oxfam charity. Since then it has become part of the city’s annual calender of festivals and events. In the years that followed, Leicester became one of the biggest Oxjam events in the country having more acts and raising more money than anywhere else.
Over the next few days Music in Leicester will be bringing you a host of photos and reports (on this page) on performers that took part in today’s festival.
