Friday kicked off with Leicester based metalcore band Alignments, who opened up the day with insane amounts of energy, sick breakdowns and powerful vocals from frontman Alex. It was great to see exactly how far the band has come since its inception, we also managed to have a quick sit down with some of the lads to talk about their upcoming projects (link below) and how it feels to be back after nearly two years away from live music.
The second act of the evening were the all-female grunge trio known also as MuddiBrooke, this was one of the bands to which I was personally looking forward to as it is always spectacular to see an all-female band thrive in a genre where they can seemingly be overlooked. However, MuddiBrooke are definitely a band to look out for in the future as their stage presence and inclusion of grunge-ified covers of songs such as Lesley Gore’s ‘You Don’t Own Me’ truly are something which all rock fans need to experience.
Next up we had Wired THC who were freshly coming off the Newblood stage at Bloodstock, delivered amazing energy and definitely introduced some fun party metal to the evening. The Coventry based band were definitely a highlight of the evening that really got the crowd going.
The headliners of the evening Divine Chaos were definitely not to be missed, after they just played the Bloodstock main stage the band arrived at Firebug and brought the cutting edge metal which they are known for. To be perfectly honest I expected them to not be my cup of tea seeing as I tend to stick to the subgenres of rock and metal that I have been listening to since I was the ripe old age of 15. But Divine Chaos and their performance at Firebug this weekend made me venture into the darker side of thrash metal, which I have somehow managed to mostly steer clear from over the years.
I guess I owe the metal giants a big thank you for putting on a show so good it made me get out of my musical comfort zone.
