X Factor star performs in Leicester
Wednesday 11th December
Having made it through to the finals of the TV show the X Factor, Leicester singer Sam Bailey was in town on Wednesday to perform live at The Athena theatre.
The singer, who is from Leicester Forest East and works as a Prison Officer, is tipped as a hot favourite to win the TV show when the finals take place on Saturday. The show will be televised on ITV.
Sam Bailey’s performance at the Athena was a chance for her to thank all the fans who had supported her during the competition and to urge them to vote for her in the finals of the show.
You can see a report on the singer’s reception on Arts in Leicester magazine.
Sam was on stage at the Athena singing some of her songs and talking to the crowd of around 1,800 family, friends and fans. During the show she was filmed and this will be included in the ITV broadcast on Saturday.
Sam has a strong stage presence and although she is still an ‘amateur’ she took to the task like a true professional.
Her time on stage showed a star-quality presence and Sam’s powerful vocals were clearly a huge hit with her fan-base. The star’s homecoming event has been backed by the City Council and Mayor Soulsby gave a short address of welcome prior to her performance.
Sam has been supported, in the X Factor, by judge Sharon Osbourne and they both attended the Eyres Monsell Working Men’s Club on Thursday where they sang a duet together (reports the Leicester Mercury.)
The event at the Athena was widely reported by the national press.
