Our round-up of music
for July 2015
Here is what we went to see in July
Friday 31st July
The Shed
The Music in Leicester team was out in force tonight to have a good time and listen to some bands. On the two stages tonight were iSurrender, Dig Lazarus, Chasing Cadence, Dead Question, Will Paddy Get Rich?, Dead Renegades and an acoustic set from singer Kane Harlow.
See our report on this show and watch Kevin Gaughan’s photos of some of the bands who played.
Friday 24th July
The Soundhouse
The first show by Casbah Music presented Bloodsugar, The Vendettas and The Frankleys. A spectacularly successful night. Read it about it here.
Thursday 23rd July
Pi Bar
we went to see Chasing Deer, Ladies, French Leave and Rebel Westerns.
Saturday 18th June
Enderby Festival
a day of music that featured George, Jonezy, Stetson, The Mixtones, Aztec Temples, The Up-Beatles and many more
Friday 17th July
The Firebug
on the line-up tonight: Eden Avenue, Flip Like Wilson and Another Day Down.
also tonight
Tom Bem was at The Shed again; we like this artist from London. Find out about Tom Bem from our previous review.
We also enjoyed a set from Unknown Heroes.
Saturday 11th July
The Shed
The Shed is where they started; The Shed is where they finished.
In between they played some of the top shows in Leicester, performed in London, Birmingham and Glastonbury…
read the story of a band that did wonderful things.
Friday 10th July
We were at The Soundhouse to see The Lids and The Mini Nukes. Disappointed to have missed a set by Luke Walker (one-time member of The Chairmen.) The Lids were three teenagers and their lead vocalist had a strong voice into which he applied plenty of character. The best thing about The Mini Nukes is that all three of them sing. Good musical entertainment delivered with lashings of passion. Songs that have oodles of drive and relentless energy. Their set was delivered with infectious good humour and a limitless supply of infectious rhythms.
Saturday 4th July
Western Park Festival
See our report on this year’s festival at Western Park.
Oxjam
That night we were at The Shed for the Oxjam Skabecue. Many excellent acts but to mention just some: Grace (from Grace and the Magic Roots) Ujahm and Goldstien were particuarly good
Joe Doyle
and also tonight Joe Doyle’s album launch held at The Soundhouse. Joe sang a song by Gorillas – Clint Eastwood lyrics – tat includes the line about having sunshine in a bag. Very good but little more than was remembered. Several notable names from the Leicester music scene were in the audience.
Olivia Rose Dean posted on Facebook on Sunday 5th July
Thank you to everyone who came out to The Cookie last night! It was an absolute blast, can’t wait for the next one! Michael Kurtz Music and Mia and the Moon were amazing and did an amazing job of setting the bar so high!
